DIY: Lace distressed tutorial

Hello,

Lace has been "in" for awhile and I admit, it's a clean chic look as long as you have the right amount.

So everyone has seen these kind of shorts at least ONCE this summer and it costs a crap ton out of your wallet. It seemed simple enough to re-create so I thought, why not try!

Here is my spin off of how to make these denim shorts! I used all recycled fabric from my previous  projects and old clothes that I don't wear no more.

Materials that you need:

  1. Denim shorts
  2. OR a pair of jeans you don't wear anymore. It shouldn't be a pair that is really tight, unless you want your shorts to be that tight.
    • I bought mine from Goodwill for $7. It actually started out as jeans but I cut them into the length that I wanted.
  3. Scissors
  4. Lace fabric - I used an old shirt
  5. Similar color thread as your lace
  6. Needle
  7. Sand paper - I used one side of my foot scubby tool that I don't use
  8. Exacto knife
  9. magazine
    • so you have a flat surface to work with
  10. something to make markers with
Using the shorts on the right (dark washed)
I thrifted this from Goodwill; Lucky Brand Jeans

So I obviously, cut my jeans out already, and made sure it was the perfect length for me.

Depending on how distressed you want the edges to be, I just kept sanding the edges of the shorts. Don't worry, it looks like nothing now, but wait until you wash it!

I wanted more of a distressed look on the other side of the lace, so I made some slits with the exacto knife and pulled lightly on the threading.

After this, WASH IT in the laundry machine and see the magic happen!

The Sewing part is pretty simple, just follow the video OR! if you don't want the hassle of sewing, then use fabric glue!! and it's simple as that! I would recommend  Aleene's OK To Wash-It Fabric Glue

Make sure when you cut out the lace fabric, you leave half an inch on the edges so you can fold the lace and sew it in to give it a clean finish.
Like so: I folded the fabric inward and sewed it down

Then keep sewing all around

all around the dotted lines

And here's the finished look!

I think this is clever/funny about Lucky Brand Jeans.
DISCLAIMER: I was at the beach, so the green is my swim suit, not my under garment

Good Luck!
